But please register for talks\u00a0\u00a0https:\/\/conwayhall.org.uk\/event\/victorian-blogging\/<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speakers:\u00a0Prof. Joad Raymond,\u00a0Dr Joseph Kelly,\u00a0Dr Gregory Claeys,\u00a0Prof. David Nash,\u00a0Deborah Lavin &amp;\u00a0Viv Regan (Spiked)<\/p>\n<p>Starting with a Joad Raymond&#8217;s talk on the technological advance of printing and the advent of the dissident pampleteering and ending with Viv Regan&#8217;s talk talk on the technological\u00a0 advance of the internet and advent of the maverick voice of blogging; and the slite&#8217;s efforts to silence both the pamphleteeer and the blogger. In between four talks on campaigns that historically animated the\u00a0 men and women associated with Conway Hall<\/p>\n<p><strong>31 October | Brockway Room\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/the-first-resort-pamphleteering-and-politics-in-early-modern-britain-tickets-47347963032\"><em>The First Resort: Pamphleteering and Politics in Early Modern Britain<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prof. Joad Raymond charts the rise of the pamphlet as a method to communicate alternative political ideas and challenge power in early modern Britain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7 November | Brockway Room<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/the-elimination-of-slavery-from-the-whole-world-problems-of-anti-slavery-in-victorian-britain-tickets-47348445475\"><em>The Elimination of Slavery from the Whole World: Problems of Anti-Slavery in Victorian Britain<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr Joseph Kelly examines the problems faced by the slavery abolition movement in Britain after slavery was abolished in the British Empire in the 1830s and the new task was to eliminate slavery from the rest of the earth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>14 November | Library*\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/marx-morris-and-utopia-tickets-47348594922\"><em>Marx, Morris and Utopia<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr Gregory Claeys considers whether, despite Karl Marx&#8217;s\u00a0 well-known rejection of earlier utopian socialism, he might still be termed a utopian thinker, and how some of\u00a0Marx&#8217;s ideas were adapted and built upon\u00a0by the English socialist William Morris.<\/p>\n<p><strong>21 November | Brockway Room<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/blasphemy-the-individual-and-the-state-from-historical-flashpoint-to-contemporary-grievance-tickets-47351159593\"><em>Blasphemy, the Individual and the State: From Historical Flashpoint to Contemporary Grievance<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prof. David Nash traces the long battle to abolish the Blasphemy Laws in England, from the seventeenth century to their abolition in 2008 and examines concepts of blasphemy which impact us in new ways today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>28 November | Library<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/annie-besant-and-the-liberal-radical-socialist-and-feminist-opposition-to-birth-control-in-the-19th-tickets-47352571817\"><em>Annie Besant and the Liberal, Radical, Socialist and Feminist Opposition to Birth Control in the Nineteenth Century<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Deborah Lavin reveals how strong opposition to contraception in the 19th century, came not just from the religious and tradional but from liberals, radicals, socialists and feminists.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5 December | Brockway Room<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/the-end-of-the-wild-world-web-internet-freedom-in-the-21st-century-tickets-49281840311\"><em>The End of the Wild World Web?
